Willamette Valley Stewardship

Planting a Legacy

Farming for the Future

We are Andy & Liz Schaecher, Willamette Valley farmers. We met in a crop class at Oregon State University and haven’t looked back since. Today, we farm in the heart of Marion County, and are lucky enough to work side-by-side doing what we love. Our 1523 sparkling wine honors our children’s birthdays, in honor of the legacy we hope to build for Aiden and Finley.

Our Story

Heritage in the Soil

Andy’s parents, who cultivated ornamental shade trees, purchased this property—on 76th Avenue—in 1976. He spent his summers farming alongside his grandfather, learning the value of hard work, long hours, and thinking outside the box. With constant conversation, collab-oration, and know-how shared from his dad, Pat, Andy has gathered a deep understanding of farming, the land, and responsibility. Liz’s family has farmed everything from Christmas trees to dairy and beef cattle. Her paternal grandparents were first-generation Italian immigrant farmers from the Lake Como area of Italy, a region known worldwide for its fine sparkling wines.

Finley holds a small pile of dry grass or hay in their cupped hands, standing on a farm with a blurred natural background.

Rooted in Community

From the Classroom to the Field

Liz channels her passion for people and agricultural education as Program and Engagement Director for Oregon Aglink, running the Adopt a Farmer program to connect students with farms statewide. She also serves on boards supporting local agriculture and economic development. We give back as a family by donating excess crop to Salem Harvest, reinforcing our commitments to community and sustainability.
